Brighter Lights – A Quarterly Journal

Pictures From the Field
Every month for the last several years, I received stunning photos of Turkey from a friend (Joel Tiegreen) serving as a missionary in a coastal town along the southern border of the Mediterranean. The photos included in Joel’s monthly newsletters were part of his effort to illustrate how God was moving within the local community. More than once, I recommended to Joel that he sell his photos via an online marketplace due to the scarcity of high quality images providing a genuine look at Turkish life.

In 2020, Joel and his family returned to the US on medical leave. They had served as missionaries in Turkey for five years. During their time abroad, Joel published in his newsletter hundreds of photos of the people, the communities, and the countryside. After a painfully short battle with cancer, Joel Tiegreen passed on to Jesus on April 13, 2021. Listen to Joel’s presentation of the Gospel here.

The Brighter Lights project was inspired by the incredible work of this dear friend.

A Quarterly Journal
Brighter Lights aims to reimagine the missionary newsletter by providing missionaries an opportunity to share and be compensated for stories and pictures highlighting what God is doing in their communities. Every published story will include the name and contact info of the missionary and/or partner missionary organization (unless otherwise requested) for purposes of assisting these workers with support from the Shine the Word community.

Brighter Lights is positioned to highlight stories in three areas: Bible memorization, Bible translation, and missionary article submissions.

With a planned launch date of Spring ’22, subscription to the quarterly Brighter Lights journal will include two sustainably sourced hardwood memorization planks and a digital download of the most recent album release from the Songs for the People project. Learn more about the soon-to-be manufactured Bible Memorization Kits here.
